We had a lovely day today. We had our Pillars of Care assembly and that continued into a Jump Rope for Heart Assembly which was super awesome. Watch for Jump Rope for Heart info coming out soon.

Then we did some quick Math, had a snack and a break, went to PE, then Buddies and then we did our Spelling Quizzes.

Afterwards we worked on some fine motor skills using wiki stix and sewing boards.

Then it was time for home! Whew...what a day! It flew fight by.

Next week we are starting a new Science Unit, will continue learning about our 3 different communities across Canada and of course, we will catch up on the Olympics. Did you know Canada broke it's Personal Best for Medals at the Winter Games? Ask your child how many medals Canada currently has.

PUNCTUALITY!!!

One of our current focuses at Beddington Heights is improving the number of students who arrive at school on time in the morning. In December we introduced the "Punctuality Award" at our monthly Pillars of Care assembly to recognize students who have arrived on time every day that month. We also made a promise that if our students' punctuality improved we would celebrate with a movie. We are pleased to say that we have seen an overall improvement and will be holding our first movie session tomorrow (Thursday, February 22) during lunchtime. Students that normally go home for lunch are welcome to bring their lunch and stay with their classmates to enjoy the show.

There will be no Valentine's Dance. Instead, Parent Council will do a Spring Dance in March.

Hot Lunch, for those who sent in money, will be on Wednesday, February 28th! Yummy Subway!

Our Pillar of Care Awards Assembly will be this Friday at 8:15 am. If your child received an award please ask them if they have a note for you.

In PE we are doing Olympic activities! Today we did Skeleton, Bobsled, Curling and a summer sport, Basketball. Yesterday we did dodgeball, it should be an Olympic Sport and Biathlon. Ask your child what a Biathlon is and how we demonstrate it at school.

In Math we are working on using Number Line's. Even if we don't need it, we are practicing on how to use them, so when we start using bigger numbers, we will know what to do.

In Social Studies this afternoon, we learned about Calgary's Landscape. Ask your child about it.

Students were allowed out at Lunch Recess!!!!! WOOHOO!!! Hopefully the severe cold is done for good now.

Ms. Yu is Back!!!!

We were all very excited to have Ms. Yu back in our classroom. She will be here until the end of April.

We did not receive new spelling words today. Last week was such a short week, so I decided to keep the same words from last week.

Spelling Words - PLEASE PRACTICE DAILY!
Group A- gate, rake, name, bake, fine, bike, hide, mine, like, my
Group B- send, pick, end, both, fast, must, just, bath, black (I'm missing 1 word and I'm at home...oops!)
Group C - under, such, much, young, touch, use, your, you, unit, cute, new, few, fuel, human, music

To help manage behaviour and to have students think more about their behaviours in class, your child may be bringing home a note to write an apology note regarding certain behaviours that happen in class. Please check your child's back daily for these notes. It will be a white piece of paper with instructions at the top. Some students will need help to complete it. It is due back the next day in class. If it is not returned your child will miss recess or lunch recess time to complete it independently.

If you would like to discuss this, please email me and we will set something up.

We hope you are watching the Olympics! We have watched a recap of the first 10 days and will continue each day to watch a short recap! Did you see Scott Moir and Tessa Virtue's beautiful figure skating program? We watched that during snack today.

Looks like another chilly morning tomorrow....bundle up!

Valentine's Day

Yes, we will celebrate Valentines Day tomorrow, Wednesday! You are not obligated to send Valentines for your child to hand out, but if you do please send enough for all students, 22, and 2 teachers!

Tomorrow will also be our last day swimming! It has been awesome to see your kids grow and progress. I love watching them be so excited for being able to do something that they were kinda scared of at first. Way to go Room 4!

Daily Olympic Update:
Canada has 10 medals - 3 Gold, 4 Silver and 3 Bronze - Way to go Canada!

Have a discussion with your child about how to treat materials and items in Room 4. We have had some things taken away because of misuse. Hopefully students can earn the privilege to use these items again.

Reminder there is no school Thursday, Friday or Monday! 5 whole days off! See you Tuesday, February 20th!

SWIMMING!!!

We start swimming tomorrow, Tuesday! I've asked that 1-piece bathing suits not be worn to school. This will make it difficult for students to go to the bathroom in the morning. We are leaving at 10:15 to go to swimming and we will get back right at lunch time.

You are more than welcome to come watch the lessons, but we ask that no parents come into the change room with us. Thank you for your understanding.

IF (or when) your child forgets their suit or towel, the pool has some extras we are allowed to borrow. They may not fit and they have definitely been worn by others (they are washed), so please try not to forget.
